Description
Product Introduction
The Woodward 37205-01 is a 2-gauge dashboard kit containing a 4-3/8″ speedometer and a matching 4-3/8″ quad gauge. It utilizes NVU’s Phoenix Direct Drive tech, meaning you only need to power the main gauge—the second one daisy-chains off the back.
This black-face unit contrasts with the 37204-02 we just covered. It uses larger 111 mm housings instead of 85 mm. The integrated OLED window on the speedo tracks tripmeter data without cluttering the bezel.

Quality Control Process (Engineer’s Perspective)
- Incoming Verification: Check the NVU 37205-01 serials on both 111 mm housings against the manifest. Look for fingerprints trapped under the domed glass—common on the third shift runs.
- Live Functional Test: Apply 12 Vdc to the speedo’s Packard plug. Feed a 60 Hz signal to the tach leads. Both needles must sweep to full scale; check the OLED for segment dropouts.
- Electrical Parameter Test: Sweep a potentiometer on the fuel sender pins. Use a Fluke 115 to confirm the ADC reading stays linear within 2% across the sweep—non-linearity means a bad ground plane.
- Firmware Verification: Initiate the one-mile calibration. Well, technically it supports the push-button method, but only on firmware v3.2+. Snap a photo of the OLED confirming the PPM count locked.
- Final QC & Packaging: Nest each gauge in die-cut anti-static foam. Coil the Direct Drive jumper loosely. Stick the “QC Passed – 24hr Burn-in” label on the box corner before sealing.

Replacement Pitfall Guide
❗ Size Mismatch: The Woodward 37205-01 is 4-3/8″ (111 mm). Dropping this into a 3-3/8″ hole (like the 37204 series) requires cutting the dash—measure twice, cut once.
❗ Direct Drive Polarity: The daisy-chain port on the back of the speedo is keyed, but forcing the plug upside down bends the pins. Always align the notch on the third terminal block connector.
❗ Sender Ground Loop: The quad gauge shares a common sensor ground. If your oil pressure sender has a case ground and touches the block, you get ghost readings on the fuel gauge.
❗ OLED Sunlight Washout: The digital window is bright, but direct afternoon sun can wash it out. Tilt the housing 5 degrees if possible—though your mileage may vary based on your windshield rake.
❗ ESD to OLED: The display driver is sensitive. In dry太原 winters, ground the chassis before plugging in the Packard connector to avoid a zapped segment.
Keep these in mind and you’ll cut 90% of rework time.

- Woodward 37205-01 → Woodward 37204-02 : Needs Adaptation — Requires redrilling dash for larger 111 mm holes
- Woodward 37205-01 → AutoMeter 4797 : Incompatible — Wiring harness and sender logic differ
- Sweep Response: < 1.5 seconds (0-140 mph step change)
- Signal Input Range: 2,000 to 40,000 PPM (Speedo), 0.5-333 Hz (Tach)
- Daisy-Chain Load: < 50 mA draw on the slave port
