Description
Product Introduction
The Woodward 37157-01 is a Quadzilla 4-in-1 gauge assembly for hot rods and customs. It centralizes critical engine data into a single 111 mm hole, reducing dashboard cutouts and wiring complexity significantly.
This unit uses Phoenix technology to drive the needles. Unlike single-function gauges, it offers one extra analog input plus a voltmeter display. The black face with white graphics ensures readability, even in glancing sunlight.

Quality Control Process (Engineer’s Perspective)
- Incoming Verification: Cross-check the part number label on the box with the NVU 37157-01 stamped on the bezel rim. Inspect the dome glass for molding seams or optical distortion.
- Live Functional Test: Apply 12 Vdc and feed a 60 Hz square wave to the tach input. All four needles should sweep to test position, then settle without sticking at the mechanical stops.
- Electrical Parameter Test: Back-probe the AMP connector pins using a Fluke 115. Verify the sender input resistance changes linearly as you sweep the simulated pot across 0-90 Ω.
- Firmware Verification: Trigger the calibration mode via the remote button. Watch the speedo LCD (if equipped) or needle flicker to confirm the MCU accepted the command sequence.
- Final QC & Packaging: Bag the harness separately in anti-static plastic. Stick the “QC Passed” label on the box flap with the date and inspector initials.
Replacement Pitfall Guide
❗ Hole Size Mismatch: This Woodward 37157-01 requires a true 4-3/8 in hole. Trying to force it into a 4 in opening cracks the bezel retaining tabs immediately.
❗ Sender Resistance: The fuel gauge logic expects a specific ohm range (verify with OEM datasheet, usually 0-90Ω or 240-33Ω). Connecting a mismatched tank sender shows empty when full.
❗ AMP Connector Seating: The color-coded plug feels secure before it latches. Always pull the harness boot back to visually confirm the locking ramp engaged on the gauge header.
❗ Calibration Overwrite: Accidentally holding the button for 5 seconds resets the speedo pulse count. You must redrive the vehicle for exactly one mile to relearn the VSS signal.
❗ ESD to Logic: The Phoenix driver board sits right behind the lens. Handle the unit by the steel bezel only; touching the lens in dry air risks zapping the LCD driver.
Keep these in mind and you’ll cut 90% of rework time.
