Description
IS220UCSAH1A Product Overview
The IS220UCSAH1A is a fanless, high-performance Processor / Acoustic Monitor Module (PAMC) used inside GE Mark VIe distributed control cabinets. It combines a 667 MHz Freescale PowerPC 8349 CPU, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, and 1 GB CompactFlash to execute turbine protection, acoustic monitoring, and fast closed-loop control algorithms under the QNX Neutrino real-time operating system.

In the automation hierarchy the module sits at the “primary controller” layer: it runs the turbine application, exchanges high-speed data with I/O packs over the dedicated IONet (IEEE 1588-synchronised Ethernet), and publishes plant data via dual Gig-E ports that support Modbus TCP, PROFINET, and IEC 61850. Triple redundancy is achieved by installing up to three IS220UCSAH1A units in a single Mark VIe chassis; the modules synchronise state data over the backplane and vote outputs before commanding field devices.
Because the card is certified for Zone 2 hazardous locations and operates from 18–36 VDC without a fan, it is accepted in compressor stations, off-shore platforms, and combined-cycle plants without additional HVAC.

Core Features & Customer Value
667 MHz PowerPC + QNX RTOS – Delivers micro-second interrupt response and millisecond-level turbine control loops without the jitter of Windows-based controllers

.
Triple-redundant native – Up to three PAMCs vote outputs over the backplane; <50 ms failover keeps gas or steam turbines on-line during a CPU fault .
IONet + 6 Gig-E ports – Dedicated IEEE-1588-synchronised IONet isolates I/O traffic from plant networks, while dual Gig-E provides redundant Modbus TCP or PROFINET to the DCS .
Fanless & wide-temp – Conduction-cooled plate operates from –40 °C to +70 °C without a fan, eliminating the most common failure mode in turbine skids and off-shore platforms .
Zone-2 certified – NFPA Class I Div. 2 and ATEX Zone 2 approval allows direct installation in hazardous-location panels without additional purge or pressurisation systems

Typical Applications
In combined-cycle power plants the IS220UCSAH1A is installed as the primary (and voted redundant) PAMC in Mark VIe racks that govern gas-turbine fuel valves, inlet-guide-vane actuators, and acoustic combustion monitors. The 667 MHz CPU executes the speed-control PID and fast protection logic while publishing real-time data to the plant DCS over redundant Gig-E.

In pipeline compressor stations the same module runs anti-surge algorithms and communicates with remote I/O packs over IONet, ensuring surge-free operation even during rapid transients.
Because the module is certified for marine environments, it is also used on off-shore platforms for well-head control and engine governors where a fan-less, Zone-2 controller is mandatory.
