Description

IC694MDL660 Product Overview
The IC694MDL660 is a high-density, 32-point digital input module that installs in any I/O slot of an Emerson PACSystems RX3i rack. It converts 24 VDC field signals—push-buttons, proximity switches, auxiliary contacts—into logic-level data for the RX3i CPU without requiring external pull-up resistors or additional isolation.
Within the control architecture the card sits at the “field-status” layer: each input presents a 7 mA load and accepts 0–30 VDC, allowing direct connection to both sourcing (PNP) and sinking (NPN) devices. The 32 points are arranged in four electrically isolated groups of eight; isolation prevents a ground fault or surge on one group from corrupting the remaining 24 inputs. A front-panel green LED shows module health, while individual bit status is reported to the CPU each scan.
Being an RX3i “Universal” module, it is hot-swappable, auto-configured by the CPU, and shares the same terminal-block style as other 32-point RX3i I/O, so plant stores can standardise on one cable and one spare.

Core Features & Customer Value
High-density 32-point card – One module replaces four 8-point cards, freeing rack slots and reducing spare-parts inventory while keeping the same 7 mA input characteristic.
Group isolation (4 × 8) – A ground fault or surge on one octet does not affect the other three groups, keeping critical interlocks or alarm inputs alive during field faults.
0–30 VDC range & bipolar logic – Accepts 12 V, 24 V, or 28 V signals and interprets either PNP (positive) or NPN (negative) devices without jumper changes—ideal for mixed-voltage plants.
No external pull-ups required – On-chip termination and current source eliminate the need for field resistors, cutting installation time and wiring errors.
Hot-swap & auto-configure – Module can be inserted or removed while the RX3i rack is powered, and the CPU automatically recognises range and fault status—no DIP switches to set.

Typical Applications
In combined-cycle power plants the IC694MDL660 is installed in the “discrete input” section of RX3i racks that monitor gas-turbine auxiliary contacts, cooling-fan status, and fire-protection damper position. The 32-point density reduces panel size, while group isolation prevents a shorted contactor coil from corrupting the remaining inputs.
In pipeline compressor stations the same module reads 24 VDC status from auxiliary pumps, valve limit switches, and local E-stop buttons, using the high-density layout to minimise marshalling cabinet footprint.
Because the card is certified for Zone 2 and marine environments, it is also used on off-shore platforms for well-head valve position and local control-panel push-buttons without needing additional isolation relays.
